Xtreme Soundscapes Vol I DVD Release Show, Castways, Ithaca, NY - November 21, 2004

Divinity DestroyedWe did a DVD series for a few years called Xtreme Soundscapes. The idea was to feature live music from unsigned bands, and usually one big band, and explore awesome underground music. This was the first DVD release show. It was at Castways, Ithaca, NY on November 21, 2004. I do believe this was also the 2nd show we ever booked. You can watch and download all the Xtreme Soundscapes DVD's on Vimeo

The show consisted of a diverse line-up of Lotus Project (from the Ithaca area), Worm Quartet (from Rochester, NY), If Man is Five (from Binghamton, NY) doing an acoustic set, Divinity Destroyed (from Toms River, New Jersey), The Pushrods (from Elmira, NY), and The Wicthing (from Ithaca, NY). It was a pretty awesome show. All the bands have broken up aside from Worm Quartet, who is not as active as he once was. If Man is Five are attempting a comeback with a different lineup. There are pictures below, all from different sources. Here are some of the performances from that night...

May 8, 2005 - Just Joe Floods the Building

Crow and SallyJust Joe was there. So was his pretend dad, Crow, the drummer for The Pushrods. It was decided that the Just Joe appreciation hour (which had ended the show the week before), would now be expanded into a whole Just Joe appreciation night, which would be that night. Just Joe was told that, barring any really bad behavior from him, it was his night. Just Joe was happy with this, and things went well... For awhile. But, it is Just Joe we're talking about here, so, it was to be expected that this could not last for long. Apparently the toilet was broken (that, amazingly, was not Just Joe's fault, but what came next was all his fault), and there was a sign on it informing everyone of this fact, and warning against flushing it as the water would keep on flowing and flood the building if anyone did. Wouldn't ya know, Just Joe somehow missed this sign and flushed... Causing massive flooding. He promised that he could fix this. His solution was to route all the flooding to the basement. He was told that that was not acceptable (some people are just sooo picky and hard to please!), as there was equipment and a large part of the CD catalog down there, things which were needed for the show. Just Joe said that the basement door could not be opened any more. They tested this and found that he was right. They threw Just Joe into the door many times to try to get it to open. No luck. So they threw him through the window. By Now the water down there was waist high and stunk badly. Next break they ordered Just Joe back to the basement. He said that he did not want to go down there because there was something bad down there (something besides the stinking waist deep water), something which had grabbed him. He resisted strongly, insisting loudly that there was something bad down there. They threw him back down there anyways (with a huge rough toss through the door and down the stairs)... Just Joe could be heard screaming in terror down there. So who knows, as that was the end of the show (or, at least the talking part of it).

April 17, 2005 - David's Last Stand

David and JoeThe absolute worst miserable excuse for a co-host of all time hands down actually saw fit to put in an extremely rare appearance. Yes, that's right, David of Lotus Project was actually there... For all of one whole talk break! How nice of him! He was kind enough to drop by to let us know that this would be his last appearance on LE before he moves to Florida at the end of May. Now, since that is a month and a half away, you might ask why he couldn't fulfill his co-host duties for at least some of that time. Well, it seems he has some much more important things to do with his weekends... He plans to get totally wasted on every remaining weekend between now and then... Ah, the dedication! The loyalty! The commitment! How will LE ever manage without him!? He also has his short poser haircut now. And sadly, it appears that Lotus Project will probably break up. Too bad, as they were a great band. They are however, going to try and still put out their CD, so watch for that. See, because of David's selfishness (just having to move away!) a great band had to die. Lousy co-host, and lousy band mate. Crow was there. He talked about The Pushrods upcoming CD release show. It's Friday, the 22nd of April, (this Friday) at Castaways. It's in the middle of their 80's night, and The Pushrods go on at 11:00. They will also be shooting the video for their song "Girls In Vinyl Skirts", and they will be giving out free Pushrods stuff (beer mugs and free beer included) to the first 50 people through the door. So it should be a fun night, and you should all attend. Just Joe was there and still gloating over his winning his challenge the week before (lasting two minutes in a shoot fight with Azkath, and not submitting or tapping out). Azkath told him that, for his challenge this week, they would have a rematch. He told him that, this time, it would be outside, and that just Joe had to try and last for just one minute in a shoot fight. And that, if somehow he did manage to do that, he could hear some Triumph. Just Joe was full of confidence (among other things) and they started outside... On their way out, Azkath asked Just Joe "what was that, over there, by the wall?". Just Joe got distracted (that's easy to do with him), asking what?, and then saying that he didn't see anything. Then there was a horrible clang as Azkath bashed Just Joe over the head with a steel chair. The hit was so hard it left a Just Joe shaped dent in the chair and knocked Just Joe out cold. And, since he was so nice and unconscious and all, Azkath took this opportunity to return him to the basement, dragging him again, so that his head banged against every single step again on the way down, and locking him in there. After awhile, Just Joe came to and phoned upstairs. He was livid. He said he hated them. They were laughing at him saying why would he hate them, and telling him to enjoy the basement, as he would be there a long time. Just Joe said that oh no he wouldn't either, as he had a secret weapon. They didn't believe him and kept laughing at him. Just Joe said that they would let him out. They said that, no, they would not. But Just Joe kept insisting that oh yes they would because he had this secret weapon, which he was sure that Foul Mouth Girl especially would be very interested in. They finally asked him what this secret weapon was... He said that he had Foul Mouth Girl's jacket, and was wearing it, and singing "Weird Guy in a Little Coat". FMG became extremely enraged at this (fortunately not enough to swear though, for a miracle), and took off for the basement screaming that Just Joe would pay for this. Well, who can blame her!? I mean, who would want Just Joe wearing anything of theirs!? I mean, you just never know where he's been! *shudder* And besides, Just Joe was threatening to do terrible things to the hostage. FMG Got down to the basement, and attacked Just Joe. But, then there was a thud, and, unfortunately, Just Joe emerged from the basement. In a moment, FMG could be heard, from the basement, saying that Just Joe had knocked her down and made it up the stairs and out the door before she could get up and get there. So, now she was locked down there. Luckily, she somehow still managed to keep from swearing. Will wonders never cease!? Just Joe was quite pleased with himself, and began bragging again. And, apparently, The Almighty Monkey called into the show again (not on air). He threatened to make a visit to the show sometime (And just over ten years later, he did!). Just Joe and The Almighty Monkey! Just picture it! On second Thought, I don't think I want to picture that! *shudder* And so went LE for that week. Now Just Joe has lost two of his challenges. And, come to think of it, when he loses them, he loses in the 1st second (first with Crow and the glass of water, and then to Azkath with the steel chair, so, I guess, if he can just get past the 1st second, then he's alright).

April 3, 2005 - Glam Hour Extravaganza

P4030018After several weeks of Pushrods absence from the show, there was once again Pushrods representation, as Crow, their drummer was there. He told us how their tour playing in Florida had gone. It went quite well. Just Joe was there (on LE, that night, that is, not in Florida with the band, which I'm sure the band was very happy about). And, as it was the night when the clocks are set ahead one hour for Daylight Savings Time, it was the annual Tribute To Glam Hour Show (which we all look so forward to all year long), in which the hour from 2 to 3 is totally dedicated to playing nothing but glam music. Just Joe was very excited about this, and said he had brought a whole stack of glam music to play. So, when 2:00 arrived, he was very happy... But, of course, at 2:00, it became 3:00, and so they informed him that glam hour was over (after one song by Firehouse). Just Joe kept insisting that it was time for much more glam (not grasping the concept, because he is too stupid to do so), and they kept insisting that they had had glam hour, and that now it was over, and that it had been great, and what was he complaining for? Just Joe became irate, ranting and pouting, and threatening to hijack the show and play more glam. Like he could ever be smart enough to figure out a way to pull that off! Later they were beating up on Just Joe... Just Joe removed his spiked necklace, intending to use it as a weapon. He went to hit Azkath in the leg with it, but didn't get to do that, as the necklace disintegrated in his hand, exploding, sending pieces all over the room, down the hall, and, even into the basement. So let that be a lesson, if you are in a fight, do not try to defend yourself with a necklace, as, apparently, they do not make good weapons at all. Or at least they don't for Just Joe. Later, it was time for Just Joe's challenge for the night. They gave Crow a glass of water, and sent him and Just Joe outside... Just Joe's challenge was to try to make it back inside either without getting any water on himself, or after getting the water all over Crow, either would be a win for Just Joe. He had one minute to accomplish this challenge. Now, Just Joe had, up to this night never lost a challenge (granted, some of them really haven't been too hard, distracting Ritchie while he's playing guitar and singing, Penguin throwing, getting an idiot like me to change her name to Joe for National Joe Day), but this one he lost in the first second. As soon as they were outside, Crow tossed the glass of water right in Just Joe's face. And, so, Just Joe suffered his first loss so far. He tried to say that he hadn't lost, that his face was wet because it was raining out, but, everyone knew that that was not the reason, there was too much water on him for the mere second he had been outdoors. Oh well, can't win 'em all... Everyone is a loser sometimes. Wait... Just Joe is a loser all the time, but in the other sense of that word. :p And so that was the show for the week, the annual Tribute To Glam Hour, among other things. It was a good show, a bit too heavy on the glam, perhaps, but, then again, it only happens once a year. If it was a bit too much glam, well, how can you fault that!??

March 6, 2005 - New Pushrods CD and David's Last Stand

Just Joe was not there. They were not sure why this was, or where he was. It was eventually concluded that he may have attended the GWAR concert, and that, if so, GWAR had probably killed him. Crow from The Pushrods was there, so, once again, there was Pushrods representation on LE. However, there will not be for the next few weeks, as they are going on tour and, thus, will be elsewhere. Crow brought along their new CD, which is done and now available. It rocks, and the price is very reasonable. And, oh wonder of wonders!, guess who else was there for once?! No, not the person who would win the award for person with worst record of attendance, that would be, of course, Shoebox. No it was the person who would hands down be the runner up for worst co-host of all time... Yes, (drum roll) co-host David, bassist for the band Lotus Project, actually finally saw fit to put in an appearance after months of absence! And he informed us that he is cutting his hair short (on March 18th, mark that incredibly important date down!), leaving Lotus Project in three months, and moving to Florida. Well, it could be worse, at least it's not Jersey, where he has spent an ungodly amount of time for some unfathomable reason. I don't know how LE will manage to make it without him, after all, what will they ever do without all of the tireless, selfless, loyalty, dedication, hard work and long hours that he's put in as co-host!? I don't see how they can, but, I'm sure they will find a way to muddle through without him, somehow, extremely difficult though it will be, the show must go on, and thus, it will... Somehow. True to form, David left after a couple hours, nothing's changed there. Crow was there for most of the night, then left to rest up and get ready for their upcoming tour. We got to hear some of the tracks from the new CD played. It sounded great.

February 13, 2005 - Crow and Ritchie

PushrodsThe band If Man Is Five did finally stop by the show... However, they were having lots of problems that night, and were broken, so, unfortunately, they were not able to go on air, just stopped in briefly to explain this. So, another time... Ritchie and Crow of The Pushrods were both there, as was Just Joe. They have come up with a new concept which they hope to make a regular thing (or as regular as anything can be on LE)... It's called The Just Joe's Challenge, and it goes like this... When they do it, they will come up with a task for Just Joe to perform, and, if he is successful, he will get some kind of reward, like being able to hear his favorite bands, or something. This week his first task was relatively easy... He was supposed to distract Ritchie while he was trying to perform a song, and keep him from getting through it. This, of course, was not too hard, even with the stipulations... Which were that he could not touch Ritchie at all to distract him... Still, he succeeded quite easily, he got right up in his face and tried to feed him a cupcake. It worked. And so that was Just Joe's first challenge, which went quite well for him. I'm sure that his future tasks will be harder... After all, distracting Ritchie... Ritchie can get distracted when noone is trying to distract him. Besides, he is getting used to trying to play through Just Joe's antics. Ritchie performed many songs throughout the night. And, in the final portion of the show, we got to hear the entire performance of the band The Witching from The Xtreme Soundscapes DVD release show back in November.

February 6, 2005 - A Quite Night

Just Joe was not there, probably recuperating from all his beat downs at The Metallic Onslaught the night before. Although, the reason he gave was that he was home sick. (sick from the beatdowns, probably).  :p The Penguin was there briefly. Richie from The Pushrods was there. He performed many pushrods's songs and one Beatles song live and acoustic. And, interestingly enough, even though Just Joe was not there to distract and molest him, he still couldn't remember the words to his songs, and had a hard time getting through them, and still even on one of them, could not get through it at all. Which I guess just proves that he can't remember anything, and is easily distracted.    Since he did not have the excuse (completely valid and understandable excuse though it is) of Just Joe, what else is there to conclude?    It was amusing, though, and the songs rocked, as always.

January 30, 2005 - Just Joe meets his Match...

LEThere were no more freak events (of nature, or otherwise. No, the freak events were once again reserved for the show, as it should be), so, there actually was a LE this week. Attendant at this show were: Ritchie of The Pushrods, Just Joe, and some new people, one of whom was named Michelle, and a new guy named Ken. Ritchie performed some more songs acoustically, including couple new songs. While he was performing, as is the custom now, he had to contend with being tormented by Just Joe. And, there was a new and bizarre twist to this torment. Michelle had brought with her a cigarette lighter, and while Ritchie was trying to perform his songs, Just Joe was poking said cigarette lighter in his ear. Oh, and did I mention that this lighter was in the shape of a, well, a penis!? Ritchie put up quite a good performance considering what he was enduring, guess he's getting used to performing through Just Joe's molestations. Then they instructed Just Joe to take someone to the basement. They decided and told him to have it be Michelle. Just Joe did this, quite roughly (he had been being gentler doing this lately, but, this time Michelle went down the stairs flailing and screaming). Foul Mouth Girl then locked the basement door to keep Just Joe down there, saying that if a human sacrifice was what was needed to get rid of Just Joe for a while, and get some peace and quiet, well then it was a fair trade. However, at the next talk break, we were informed that Just Joe was now outside, curled up in a fetal position, listening to Dennis Leary, and unresponsive. They asked Michelle what had transpired that had traumatized Just Joe so badly. And apparently, although Just Joe had started off in charge of the situation, he badly lost control of it. Although Michelle had gone down the stairs flailing and screaming, and had flown through the air and went sprawling onto the couch, she then told Just Joe that she was going to show him who was in charge... And she shoved the penis shaped lighter... Never mind. So, Just Joe was raped with a dick shaped cigarette lighter. They thanked Michelle for doing such an excellent job of Dispatching Just Joe for them, and then she and Ken were on their merry way. Just Joe refused to talk about it when they asked him what had happened to him, and why he kept holding his butt as if it were in pain. There were also some other beat downs and brawls throughout the night involving a chair. And we finally got an update on how the attempted combining of The Wheel Of Satan with The Keys To The Apocalypse to try and bring about some kind of an Armageddon is going... Apparently it is not going too well so far, but it is still being worked on... So, we shall wait and see... Then it was decided to try something new... They called it Ritchie's Challenge, and it went like this... Just Joe and Ritchie would come up with classic rock songs and try to perform them. They did some Boston and some other ones. And then Just Joe Started singing... VERY badly! Right before they went into the feature for the night, Ritchie played and Just Joe sang "You're Just What I Needed" by The Cars. It was absolutely hideous and was apologized for by Azkath. In the final portion of the show, we got to hear The Pushrod's performance from The Extreme Soundscapes DVD release show a couple months ago played in it's entirety, well, in it's entirety except for Ritchie's copious swearing between songs, which had to be edited out of course. It sounded great and rocked!
