Xtreme Soundscapes Vol I DVD Release Show, Castways, Ithaca, NY - November 21, 2004

Divinity DestroyedWe did a DVD series for a few years called Xtreme Soundscapes. The idea was to feature live music from unsigned bands, and usually one big band, and explore awesome underground music. This was the first DVD release show. It was at Castways, Ithaca, NY on November 21, 2004. I do believe this was also the 2nd show we ever booked. You can watch and download all the Xtreme Soundscapes DVD's on Vimeo

The show consisted of a diverse line-up of Lotus Project (from the Ithaca area), Worm Quartet (from Rochester, NY), If Man is Five (from Binghamton, NY) doing an acoustic set, Divinity Destroyed (from Toms River, New Jersey), The Pushrods (from Elmira, NY), and The Wicthing (from Ithaca, NY). It was a pretty awesome show. All the bands have broken up aside from Worm Quartet, who is not as active as he once was. If Man is Five are attempting a comeback with a different lineup. There are pictures below, all from different sources. Here are some of the performances from that night...

May 12, 2002 - Shoebox's Debut / Armageddon Show

The Recap by Azkath...

Zoltan Shoebox Timmy 2Ok, so the rain here started during the show and pretty much has not let up since. Maybe Zoltan was right when he was building the ark. Everything is starting to flood...

Our little musical ritual is complete. If all goes as it should, SOMETHING should happen Wednesday. Maybe it will just keep raining... No sign of Nibiru, but there is that planetary alignment, which completes, I believe, tonight...

Well, what can I say? It was chaos. Moreso than I can ever remember in recent history. First, before the show, I sicked Jeffie on Ithaska. He thinks they liked him. Then I tossed him out of the station and we proceeded with The Last Exit. I dusted off the Wheel of Satan, for maybe the last time, and pushed the button / aka spun the wheel. Vern was there. He was still insane. The wheel fixed that. So, since I had a more sane and unfornately also more annoying Vern (he was actually sort of funny and not irritating when insane - weird...) I had him give away boxes of free stuff. That went well, but it could have gone better. If by some chance, the world is still here next week, we will give away what we have left. Ok, so then the wheel was spun again, and up came Zoltan the Avenger, staight from Hell, with his Denim jacket AND Hawiian shirt, and Fuzzy Hat, and FuzzNubby (Vern's offspring). Then we had a nifty visit from Shoebox of The Worm Quartet. He brought us a Giant Tampon. Kind of him. Hmmm... Then there was some chaos, Friend showed up and, well, Friended everyone. In a really strange moment, which is definitely a sign of the end of the world, Friend put on Zoltan's fuzzy hat, and BECAME Zoltan the Avenger. It was bizarre. And unerving for Zoltan. Eventually, Timmy the Prophet of Doom wandered in and it was all complete. Mayhem was fully underway. Eventually Zoltan decided he wanted to leave. Friend bolted with FuzzNubby. I spun the Wheel of Satan for perhaps the last time, and it disallowed Zoltan back into Hell. Despite not liking Hell, we was upset. Probably just because he wasn't allowed to be there anymore. Satan claimed his excessive grievences were too much for even him. ZTA is now stuck wandering the earth. At the end, there was a great little sing-a-long and the end of the Qabalistic Ritual, bringing us to Kether. And that was it.

As for Shoebox, he brought us some cool stuff, aka two of his older CD's. Check out his webpage at www.wormquartet.com.

Happy Armageddon!!

** Below is the audio of the full show, and the Best of DVD that contains the video from this night, which starts around the 45 minute mark... **

Cirque du So What "Procrastinators Of The Apocalypse" (2010)

So I just spent an hour driving and listing to this CD. Is it stupid? Oh, god, yes, it's stupid. So very stupid. But is it funny? Yeah, most of it is damned funny. What the hell is it? Oh, well, it's a sketch comedy album from Shoebox of Worm QuartetThe Great Luke SkiDevo Spice, and Chris Mezzolesta of Power Salad. And if you are familiar with these FUMP regulars, then this is exactly what you are expecting. Stupid. And funny. They've all had #1 songs on Dr. Demento, and now they do this. Should you listen to it straight through? Well, yes. Will it hurt? Yeah, probably.

The opening track is the only real song on the CD. It basically introduces the participants. Entitled "God Hates Comedy Musicians", it sets up what follows in a way. There are a couple of running gags, there's the "Guess the Context" tracks, some of which are funny, and there is the "TILE" gag, which is very, very dumb. Very dumb. But dumb funny. There is also a few Gilbert commercials done by Luke Ski which are pretty amusing.

So overall, the ones that made me laugh, enough to mildly swerve while driving, would be, "The Bible, an Audio Book", "Name Pitch Meeting", "The Track You Will Listen to Most on this Disc", Luke Ski Cereal", "Meanwhile...", and Bonus Track #2. Now, that is not to say the rest of the tracks failed in any way, cause they do not. However, after one full listen, those are the ones that I laughed at the most.

It may cost you a few brain cells by the time you are done, but this is a very worthwhile disc. It actually clocks in at one hour, six minutes. You are also sure to hear plenty of it on The Last Exit for the Lost, although there are a few tracks that I will likely never be able to play, like the rather silly, "A F*ing Room". There are also currently two songs available on The Fump for free, so there is no reason to not go over there and check them out. As for this project, you can stop over to their website and pick up a copy.

July 6, 2014 - A Giant and A Shoebox

Shoebox and GiantWe had a couple more special guests, voices from the past who had been unable to make it in June, our month long celebration of our Twentieth Anniversary, which had concluded last week. This night, Shoebox, he of his one man comedy band, Worm Quartet, and, Deron Levine, a semi regular co-host from about sixteen years ago, were here. Also present were, Just Joe, Tim, and, Rick, from "The Metallic Onslaught", where Shoebox had been quite a regular co-host for a while. Clips from Best Of CD's were played throughout Shoebox's and Deron's times on LE. Azkath wanted Shoebox to repeat what had happened in one of those clips, and beat up Just Joe. Shoebox was a bit hesitant, as he had been back in the day, when he had been supposed to beat up Zoltan. It is hard to get him to beat up people, for some reason, but he finally went and did it. He had to go into the other room, where Just Joe was in a booth, to do it, and we got to listen, but Just Joe seemed to be pretty much ok. Shoebox's music was played throughout his appearance this night, it is awesome! www.wormquartet.com is his web site. Deron got to pick a set of music, and we had several segments of something we haven't done in quite a while, Adventures In Listening, where we play something no one has ever heard before. This time, they were all bands with really weird names and song titles, like The Leather Nun, and The Hostile Omish, with a song entitled "Who Put The Sea Monkeys In Mom's Douche?". And a band of mimes. Everyone was betting that these bands, and others would be really horrible, and they were right, although everyone did kinda like the Sea Monkeys song, it was so bad it was good. Azkath had something for Just Joe from one of last weeks returning co-hosts, who couldn't be there tonight, he had told Azkath to punch Just Joe a few times, the way EVD had always done when he was there. As my birthday had been in the past week, everyone sang "Happy Birthday To You" to me, Just Joe screeched it as only he can do, and Shoebox added some unique lyrics to it, which I'm pretty sure I have never heard in that song before. It was truly moving and beautiful! Thanks, guys! Azkath also played two short birthday songs for me, my favorite ones, as there hadn't really been room for them last week, with first a band performing, and then our playing mostly all music from the many, many bands who have graced us with their presence over the past twenty years. Thanks, Azkath, that was awesome, as always. There were segments of Movie Time, and TV programs were also discussed as well. Some songs went out to one of our regular listeners, John The Drummer, as his Birthday had just concluded less than eighteen hours ago, Happy Birthday, John! The final hour saw the return of The Old School Hour, which had been on hiatus for a month, as we celebrated our Twentieth Anniversary, playing, again, mostly music from the numerous awesome bands who have been on, or somehow connected to, LE over that time...

February 20, 2005 - Shoebox turns 30...

Just Joe was not there as his car would not start. The Penguin was there for a bit. Ritchie from the Pushrods was there for about half of the show. He performed some songs, and, wonder of wonders, I don't think he got distracted, or screwed up, or forgot the lyrics even once, which may be a first. It was quite impressive. I don't know if it was because there was no Just Joe there? I don't think that could be all that accounted for it, as Just Joe was absent a couple weeks ago, and Ritchie still seemed to have just as much trouble getting through his songs. He must just have hit a really good night for some reason. The last hour of the show (as well as some of the music throughout the whole night) was all Shoebox's music, including some old and rare and/or remixed gems. This was really fun, and it was because Saturday February 19th was Shoebox's birthday, and, thus, marked 3 decades of Shoebox on this planet. Yes, he turned 30! Happy birthday Shoebox!
